Completed in 13 months, 260+ workers, state-of-art

The Sabra Dipping Company, a joint venture between the Strauss Group of Israel and Pepsico,  opened a new state-of-the-art factory on May 26 in Richmond, Virginia .  The $68 million facility took only thirteen months from ground-breaking to production because of the combined efforts of the State, Sabra's management and the County of Chesterfield that facilitated the process through their "Fast Track" Project Review process.

Over 260 people will be employed during the initial stages, but this number will rise as new lines are opened.  According to PepsiCo CEO Indra Nooyei, she expects the company to grow from less than $200 million to a $billion company.

Governor Bob McDonnell acknowledged that Virginia which was proclaimed by Forbes to be the "Best State for Business" four years in a row is now privileged to have such distinguished CEO's as Ofra Strauss (CEO of Strauss which is a 50% partner in Sabra) and Indra Nooyei as part of Sabra's and Virginia's vision.  Each has recently been named by the Financial Times of England as the 12th and 1st most powerful and successful businesswoman in the world respectively.

The facility itself has no rival in the world.  Believed to be the "greenest facility" of its kind in the world, every system was especially designed to conserve energy and maintain quality.  Just one example is the "positive pressure" air filtration system in critical areas of the facility in order to assure a germ free environment.   This is especially important for Sabra since the humus produced in the factory is "all natural" and thus needs a super clean environment during production.
